Drone Development As an Emergency Cellular Tower

Drone Development As an Emergency Cellular Tower

Is your communications network out? A drone can help you solve that problem. This drone can be used as a cellular tower during an emergency. Actually drones not only can be used for the means of play, but the drone also has a useful function if there is urgent circumstances. Drone provides many benefits for humans, its ability and potential are constantly explored to make this flying object not just a hobby tool that works to take video images from the air. At least this is what the research team from the University of North Texas.

When a disaster occurs, for example earthquakes, tornadoes or major floods result in the destruction of buildings and public facilities. Including telecommunication networks that are actually needed after the disaster. Saintis department of electricity from the University of North Texas glanced at the drone as a solution.

The team designed a special drone that can carry portable cellular networks and provide signals up to several kilometers in the vicinity. In testing, the drone was flown in the Waxahachie, Texas area 400 meters from the ground. And the transmitted cell signal can reach approximately 5 kilometers.

The obstacle faced is a portable mobile device provider. This device must be light and power efficient. Electrical department professor at UNT, kamesh Namuduri said the technology they are developing currently only needs 250 miliwatt to provide signal access as far as 2 kilometers. Meanwhile, if raised to 10 watts, is enough to cover the entire city of Denton, Texas. This system is very useful after a disaster, eg ask for help or SOS signal. The team will present its technology to the 2017 city teams challenge expo 2017 in Washington DC.
